How do I open BARCODES.TXT in Excel?

  • It is strongly suggested that you change your configuration to save to CSV instead of TXT. The below instructions cover how to use a TXT file.

  • To save as CSV, you can edit your Config.ini file by going to CS3000/Parameters, right clicking on Config.ini, and clicking Edit.

    • The first line will initially have:
      BarcodeFile=\Scanned Barcodes\BARCODES.txt

    • Change the first line to read:
      BarcodeFile=\Scanned Barcodes\BARCODES.csv 

Tell Me

  • Open Excel (any version) and click Open, and Browse

  • Go to the "CS3000/Scanned Barcodes" folder. By default, you'll see No items match your search. Go to the bottom right corner and change All Excel Files to be All Files.

 

  • Double click on the BARCODES.TXT file that is now visible.

 

  • Excel will open the Text Import and ask you if your data is Delimited (which it is). Change nothing and say Next.

 

  • Click the Comma checkbox under Delimiters and click Next.

 

  • Click Finish on Step 3 without changing any settings.
