How do I get my computer's hard drive sanitized for surplus?

UMBC’s Facilities Management has a process in place to ensure the hard drive(s) of disposed computers are destroyed to prevent the release of sensitive information. The following steps outline this process. For further information please contact Facility Management.

1. Submit completed UMBC Property Disposition Form to Inventory Control.

2. Departmental Property Custodian and Facilities Management receives the APPROVED UMBC Property Disposition Form back from Inventory Control.

3. Departmental Property Custodian contacts Work Control to schedule pick-up of the computer(s).

    

4. Facilities Management will ensure their vendor destroys the hard drive(s) associated with the properly disposed equipment and will maintain the records supporting evidence of this destruction.
