Archival Tools for UMBC Sites: Guidance and Resources for Site Admins
The following Accessibility Remediation Tools are currently only available and visible if your site admin is actively working with the Sites Remediation project team as a part of the ongoing work to update UMBC’s Sites for digital accessibility.
This page is intended to assist site admins who are working with the project team to complete updates and remediations. If you are seeking to use these tools ahead of or independent of the project, please submit a ticket to request access to the tools. Anyone who is given access to the tools outside of our standard project process to complete remediations on their own will be asked to document their work per our process and complete periodic check-ins with the project team.
For guidance on what should and shouldn’t be archived via this tool, head to the Sites Project Process page.
“Pending Archive” Accessibility Status
Site admins can filter by the new accessibility status “pending archive” to view which pages are recommended by the project team for archival.
IMPORTANT: Pages in this status have not yet been archived. It is our standard process to place pages in this status that are recommended for archive during the content review, and to leave the pages in this status until all other content updates and accessibility remediations are completed to allow units to have any needed discussion about what content to archive, delete, or update.
Pages approved to be archived will be moved into the accessibility status “Archived” by the project team member at the conclusion of the remediation process.
“Archived” Accessibility Status
View the archive banner for yourself at ecofest.umbc.edu!
Putting a page into the “archived” accessibility status will place a large banner on just that page. This banner is in compliance with the WCAG 2.1 guidelines that any content clearly labeled as archived before the end of April 2026 will not require accessibility remediations, as long as there is a provision for site users to request the page be made accessible. This banner links to an RT form where users can describe their accessibility barrier with the page, and Sites staff or remediation project staff will remediate the page within two business days of receiving the request.
Archiving an Entire Site
It is possible to archive an entire Site at once so that every page will get the archive banner, without having to do the work of marking individual pages. To request that an entire site be archived, please submit a ticket.
Bringing a Page or Site out of Archive
Note 1: The project process is a collaborative one built to do everything possible to avoid needing to modify pages once they are in archive and have the displayed archive banner.
Note 2: Site admins are able to delete (trash), move into draft, make private, or remove from site navigation any pages at will, including pages in archival status.
The WCAG 2.1 guidelines require us to have any content not in archival status be accessible, which means that any content removed from archive must be remediated for accessibility within 2 business days to be compliant.
Due to this requirement, currently only Sites staff and remediation project staff have the ability to bring a page or site out of archive, or to modify a page or site in archival status. The work of remediating the page or site may be the responsibility of the site admin to complete within two days, depending on the nature and complexity of the remediations needed.
To request a page or site be removed from archival status, please submit a ticket. A Sites or project staff member will contact you to discuss what, if any, remediation work needs to be completed, and who will complete the work.
