Accessibility Remediation Tools for UMBC Sites: Guidance and Resources for Site Admins
The following Accessibility Remediation Tools are currently only available and visible if your site admin is actively working with the Sites Remediation project team as a part of the ongoing work to update UMBC’s Sites for digital accessibility.
This page is intended to assist site admins who are working with the project team to complete updates and remediations. If you are seeking to use these tools ahead of or independent of the project, please submit a ticket to request access to the tools. Anyone who is given access to the tools outside of our standard project process to complete remediations on their own will be asked to document their work per our process and complete periodic check-ins with the project team.
Want to get ahead on your website remediation? Please use the following to assist you:

“Edit Page” Accessibility Tools
The Accessibility Remediation section is in the top-right, and adds three new features to the page edit view. Please note: This section is only visible if the page’s accessibility status is not “Not Started.”
Accessibility status
Accessibility notes
A check box, which will change depending on the accessibility status of the page
Accessibility statuses
Not Started: Default status.
In Content Review: This status indicates the page has been flagged for content review, meaning there may be out-of-date content, broken links, or other content-related issues that need review by you and your unit.
In Accessibility Review: This status indicates that the page has been flagged as in need of accessibility remediations and that decisions on what work to complete and how to complete it need to be made.
Pending Remediation: This status indicates the page is actively undergoing accessibility remediation.
Pending Archive: This status indicates a page has been flagged for archive, but not yet archived. (For guidance on what should and shouldn’t be archived via this tool, head to the Sites Project Process page.)
Pending Deletion: This status indicates that a page has been flagged for deletion but has not yet been deleted. The project team will be using this status to flag any pages site admins intend to delete, with the intention of deleting them at the end of the remediation process. We are doing this for the “just in case” scenario where a page is initially flagged to be deleted, but down the line that decision is reversed - it is significantly safer for a page to sit in “pending” than it is to risk the 30-day timeline that pages are kept in the trash. (Note that the actual deletion process isn’t in this menu; it’s the “move to trash” button in the publish menu.)
Archived: This status means a page has been archived.
Remediated: This status indicates a page has completed our process and is now updated and accessible.
Accessibility Notes
This area shows notes left by the project team relevant to the current stage of changes. These will be updated by the project team as a page moves through the process, depending on what changes are needed.
Remediation Progress check boxes
Site admins will see one of two checkboxes here, depending on what stage the page is in.
During Content Review:
“Content updated by site admin” should be checked off by the site admin when they have completed any updates needed for the page. (An example of this is visible in the screenshot above.)
During Remediation:
“Completed by site admin” should be checked off by the site admin when they have completed any accessibility remediations they agreed to finish. (This looks similar to the screenshot above.)
“Pages” Accessibility Tools
You can filter pages by accessibility status at the top, under the regular page status list
This is a great tool for staying organized and for narrowing down specific pages when asking others to complete updates or remediations.
These statuses are an important data metric to show progress towards completion, and will be regularly reported to leadership.
This screenshot example is narrowed down by content review, which also shows in the far-right Accessibility column. It also shows a short preview of any notes in the “Accessibility notes” box.
