What is Profile Sharing?
What Is Profile Sharing?
You can grant access to your student account information via a feature in myUMBC called Profile Sharing. Depending on the level of access you grant to the other person, they may be able to see your billing and financial aid To-dos, billing summary, and financial aid summary. You may also grant this person the ability to contact university offices by phone, email, or in-person to access your records.
When sharing your profile, please be aware of how it affects your rights as they relate to The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) protects the privacy of student education records by limiting the disclosure of such records. Sharing your profile is one of the ways you may request that UMBC disclose your records to others.
How Do I Share My Profile?
For instructions on how to provide a person access to your billing and financial aid information, please see our Profile Sharing Instructions. If you have trouble or are interested in sharing another section of your myUMBC, visit the university’s Profile Sharing FAQs for more information.
What are the Technical Requirements for Profile Sharing?
Please be aware that sharing your profile requires the authorized person to have a myUMBC, Google (Gmail), Amazon, or Microsoft account to complete the process. Please note that your Profile Sharing login is the login you use to access your myUMBC, Google (Gmail), Amazon, or Microsoft account which may be different than your Parent Pin login.
Facebook Login Discontinued for myUMBC Profile Sharing
Facebook logins have been discontinued for myUMBC as of August 14, 2023. These logins were used exclusively by those who were granted access via Profile Sharing. We have added Google, Microsoft, and Amazon as login alternatives to Facebook.
This does not affect the logins of students, faculty, and staff with UMBC accounts.
If you are a family member who has used Facebook to log in in the past, please contact your student and have them do the following steps:
Remove access for each person who used Facebook logins by clicking on their name and then selecting Remove ALL Access at the bottom of the details page.
Share your profile with them again and ask them to accept the invitation using a login method other than Facebook.
