How to Request and Access Overleaf Premium at UMBC

Step 1: Request a Premium License

Before you can access the premium features, you must request a license through the UMBC Department of Information Technology (DoIT).

1. Fill out the Request Form Link:

   1. Include your department in the form

   2. Explain why you would like to have Overleaf Premium in the message section

2. Once your request has been accepted, you may proceed

1. Go to the Overleaf Login Portal:

   Log in to Overleaf

2. Click "Log in with SSO":

   • Look for the button labeled Log in with SSO (Single Sign-On).

   • Type in your UMBC Information

3. Link Your Account (First Time Only):

   • If you already have an Overleaf account with your UMBC email, you may be asked to link it.

   • If you are new to Overleaf, this process will create your account for you automatically.

Step 3: Confirm Your Subscription

After logging in, you should verify that you have successfully been upgraded from the "Free" plan to the "Professional" plan.

1. Go to Account Settings:

   • Click on the Account Icon in the bottom-left corner of the dashboard.

   1. Click on the Account Icon in the bottom-left corner of the dashboard.

   2. Select Subscription from the dropdown menu.

3. Check Your Plan:

   1. Look for a box or text that says Professional Plan.

   2. If it still says "Free," try logging out and logging back in using the "Log in with SSO" button again.

Fully log out of Overleaf by:

• Clicking on the Account Icon in the bottom-right corner of the dashboard (Or the top right corner of the subscriptions page).

• Selecting Log Out from the dropdown menu.

Then log back into Overleaf using the SSO option

The change to premium could take around 5 minutes

Overleaf AI Assistant Add-Ons

The AI Assist feature is not included by default in UMBC’s Overleaf license, but can be added on as a separate purchase.

• Faculty, staff, and students can purchase an individual license for the AI Assist add-on

• The add-on will work with your existing UMBC Overleaf account

Individual Purchase

• The individual plan costs $150/year

To purchase the add-on:

1. Log into your UMBC Overleaf account with Single Sign On (SSO)

2. Click ‘Account’ then ‘Account settings’

3. Scroll down to ‘AI features’, and click ‘Learn more about AI’

4. Click ‘Get AI Assist’ to purchase the Add-On

5. Fill out your payment details and purchase the add-on

Group Purchase

• Group licenses start at $675 for 5 users, up to any number of users
