How do I secure my research on DoIT provided platforms?
How do I secure my research in Google Drive, Box and OneDrive?
Managing Access and Sharing
Folder and File Syncing
Several of the collaboration tools above support syncing documents to local machines. If your research requires strong access controls and auditing of access, we recommend discouraging this practice.
Content Sharing Alerts
DoIT can configure monitoring for activity on Shared Drives in Google and Box. Monitoring can be tailored based on a research team’s needs. An example of a common alert would be for external document sharing. DoIT can also revoke sharing for documents within Shared Drives as well. For more information or to request monitoring, please email security@umbc.edu.

Additional considerations
Researchers subject to NSPM-33, CMMC, and FAR 52.204-21 are required to identify, report, and correct information and information system flaws in a timely manner. To assist with this requirement, DoIT performs periodic vulnerability scanning of the UMBC environment. If a vulnerability is discovered in a research-controlled space, DoIT will work with the research team to remediate or mitigate the vulnerability. The most common issues observed are outdated software libraries or misconfigured TLS settings.
If DoIT is not already scanning your lab, you can request that your lab be added to our vulnerability scanning schedule by emailing security@umbc.edu.
