How do I add alt text to images in myUMBC Posts and Events?

Images added to Posts and Events in myUMBC should have alt text to make them accessible to screen reader software. You can add alt text to inline images as well as your Thumbnail image.

Inline Images

To add alt text to inline images, first edit your content.

Editing an example post in myUMBC which includes an image. The image is highlighted in red, indicating it does not have alt text.

When in the editor, any images without alt text will be highlighted in red as shown above. Hovering over images reveals an button allowing you to add or modify the alt text.

Clicking the button brings up a dialog box allowing you to provide alt text. Your alt text should use a conversational tone with simple and straightforward language.

Clicking ‘Ok’ (or pressing Enter) will set the alt text for that image.

Thumbnail Image

To set alt text for your content Thumbnail, use the text area at the bottom of the Thumbnail section.

Once finished, be sure to save your Post/Event to keep any changes you made.
