  • Tableau is a data visualization software owned by Salesforce. Tableau Cloud is an online version that allows users to view Tableau workbooks and dashboards that have been published to a designated site. 

  • At UMBC,  REX Analytics serves as the university’s Tableau Server, providing access to reports and visualizations for  authorized faculty, staff, and institutional researchers.

  • This FAQ is focused on helping new users get started with the Viewer role in Tableau Cloud by directing them to Tableau’s free, online training videos designed for that level of access.

  1. If you are connecting from off campus, connect to UMBC GlobalProtect VPN. See the FAQ on Getting Connected With The UMBC GlobalProtect VPN for step-by-step instructions

  2. Access the REX Analytics site here

You must have access to REX to view the site. Visit Home to request access to REX if you don’t already have it.

If you are off campus, you must be on the VPN to access REX Analytics. If you encounter issues, ensure your VPN connection is active.

  1. Access Free Training Videos on Tableau Cloud by navigating to Tableau’s Free Training Videos > scroll down to the Viewer

  1. Click on the drop-down arrow next to Collaborate with Tableau Cloud to expand the menu

  2. Select Getting Started with Tableau Cloud to watch the tutorial

  1. The tutorial is designed for users with the Viewer role and explains how to navigate dashboards, use filters, and interact with data.

You are encouraged to complete the Viewer training series to build familiarity with Tableau Cloud’s features and capabilities.
