The activation instructions below are for UMBC owned Windows computers only works on non Office 365 versions of Office. To activate Office, you will either need to be connected to the UMBC campus network or connected to the UMBC VPN if you are using an off-campus internet connection. NOTE: Office won't activate over the UMBC Visitor wireless connection.

 Instructions for Microsoft Office 2013
  • In order to activate MS Office 2013 you will need to be connected to the UMBC campus network, or logged in to the UMBC VPN if you are using an off campus internet connection.
  • In order to activate MS Office 2013 you will need to download one of the files below as appropriate for your version of Office 2013:
  • If you downloaded the zip archive containing both files, double-click on the file you downloaded (off2013activate.zip) to unzip it. Then right-click on the .bat file (off2013activate.bat) appropriate for your version of Office 2013 and select Run As Administrator.
  • A command prompt window should appear and scroll through several commands before closing. Just before the command prompt closes it should appear similar to the one below. Your MS Office 2013 installation has now been activated.

  • In order to activate MS Office 2016 you will need to be connected to the UMBC campus network, or logged in to the UMBC VPN if you are using an off campus internet connection.
  • In order to activate MS Office 2016 you will need to download one of the files below as appropriate for your version of Office 2016:
  • If you downloaded the zip archive containing both files, double-click on the file you downloaded (off2016activate.zip) to unzip it. Then right-click on the .bat file (off2016activate.bat) appropriate for your version of Office 2016 and select Run As Administrator

    A command prompt window should appear and scroll through several commands before closing. Just before the command prompt closes it should appear similar to the one below. Your MS Office 2016 installation has now been activated.
