Tell Me

  1. Create or edit an assessment.
  2. Click the gear icon to edit the Settings. A peek panel will open.
  3. Scroll down to the SafeAssign section.
  4. Click Enable Originality Report.
  5. Select Check submissions for plagiarism with SafeAssign.



    • Optional: Allow students to view the Originality Report. If you allow multiple attempts, an Originality Report is generated for each attempt a student submits.
    • Optional: Choose whether to exclude submissions from the institutional and Global Reference Databases.

  6. Select Save.


Warning
You can enable the SafeAssign Originality Report any time, even after students have started their submissions – however, submissions cannot be retroactively checked.  Submissions received before you enable the setting aren't checked with SafeAssign.

SafeAssign results are hidden while anonymous grading is enabled. After you post grades and names are shown, you can view the SafeAssign results and the Originality Reports.

To check for plagiarism in an Original course, you will create an Assignment instead and simply check a box to tell Blackboard to use SafeAssign to check for plagiarism.

  1. Make sure Edit Mode is ON.
  2. Click on the content area you would like to add the Assignment to (for example, Course Documents or Assignments).
  3. Mouse over the blue button titled Create Assessment.
  4. Select Assignment from the drop down menu.
  5. On the Create Assignment page, provide the name, instructions, and any files students need.
    1. Optionally, select a Due Date.
  6. In the Grading section, type the Points Possible and optionally, associate a rubric. 
  7. Next, expand the Submission Details section.

  8. Select Check submissions for plagiarism using SafeAssign.
  9. Optionally, select one or both options: 
    1. Allow students to view the SafeAssign originality reports on their submissions.
    2. Exclude all student submissions for this assignment from the institutional or global reference databases.
  10. Complete the Create Assignment page by reviewing the Grading Options and Display of Grades.
  11. Click Submit.
