Yes. By default your "From" address will be your Kerberos username (e.g. username@umbc.edu).If you would like to send mail using one or more of your custom UMBC email aliases (e.g. FirstName.LastName@umbc.edu) then you need to use the Google account tools in Gmail. You can manage your custom UMBC email alias from Webadmin.

Follow the steps, it will send you a confirmation mail to the requested "send mail as" address that you entered. Since it delivers to your mail box it will actually show up in your UMBC Gmail account, you click approve, and then you will have a drop down option when you compose messages that will let you send as a given mail address.

  1. Go to http://gmail.umbc.edu with your Internet browser.
  2. Click the gear icon.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Go to Accounts link.
  5. In the Send mail as section, click Add another email address that you own.
  6. Enter your custom email alias into the Email Address field.
  7. Click Next Step.
  8. Click Send Verification. It will get sent to the email address you entered in step #6.
  9. Go to your email . The subject of the email should read "Gmail Confirmation - Send Mail as <youremailalias>.
  10. Click the link in the confirmation email or return to your web browser to enter the code.
  11. If entering the code, click Verify.
  12. If entering using the link, click Confirm.
  13. Click Make Default next to your newly added alias to set it as the default Send address.

If you wish to change the display name for your alias, click Edit Info next to the newly added alias.
