  1. From a desktop or laptop computer, sign up for UMBC Gmail. New accounts are created starting Fall 2010 semester are already in the UMBC Gmail environment
  2. Log in to UMBC Gmail at http://gmail.umbc.edu
  3. In the top right corner of the screen, select Settings, then select the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
  4. Next to IMAP Access, select Enable IMAP, then click Save Changes
  5. Log out of UMBC Gmail, then exit your browser
  6. On the iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad tap Settings
  7. Tap Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  8. Tap Add Account…
  9. Tap Gmail.
  10. Enter your first and last Name.
  11. Enter your full UMBC email Address (e.g. jack@umbc.edu)
  12. Enter the Password you use for your myUMBC account
  13. Leave the description set to the default (your email address) or change it to UMBC Gmail if you have multiple accounts on your device
  14. Tap Save located at the top right of the screen. Your should see check marks appear beside each setting, indicating your account is configured and has successfully connected.

For signing-in to your Mail app on your apple device

  1. Navigate to settings on your apple device
  2. Navigate to “Mail” tab
  3. Click on "Accounts"
  4. Click on "Add Account" 
  5. Select your preferred mail provider (Google for UMBC Users)
  6. This will pop-up a Google Sign In page
  7. Enter your full email address (username@umbc.edu) so that Google knows to bring you to UMBC's sign in page
  8. At UMBC's sign in page, enter your UMBC credentials
  9. Follow the on-screen directions for your two-factor authentication service
  10. You will likely want to select "Yes, this is my device" if using Duo two-factor authentication service
