Excerpt

Unfortunately, Blackboard is not a streaming server and media files will degrade system performance. Media files include:

  • Audio (mp3, mp4, wav, aiff, flac)

  • Video (wmv, avi, mp4, m4v, mov, mpv, mkv, mpg, mpeg, camrec, vob)

  • Interactive (swf, flv)

Further, an audit of our current Blackboard site revealed other files are using outdated formats or are simply too large for dissemination to students. The cloud infrastructure will not support file uploads larger than 500 MB. Therefore, individual file uploads in Original courses are limited to 75 MB to reduce impact on course quotas.

Affected file types may include audio, video, and interactive listed above as well as:

  • Image (tif/tiff, bmp, jpg, xif, heif, psd, svg, eps)

  • Narrated or media-rich PowerPoint (ppt, pptx, pps, ppm, ppsx, key)

  • Documents (pdf, doc, docx, rtf, ibooks, xls, xlsx, csv)

  • Computer executables (iso, exe)

  • Compressed files (zip, rar, tar.gz, bz2)

  • Classroom tools (mat, prs, pcapng)
