The activation method below is for UMBC owned computers only. Only the Enterprise and Education editions of Windows are supported (determining your version of Windows).


Note

Windows won't activate over the UMBC Visitor wireless connection or from an off-campus internet connection. To activate Windows, you will either need to be connected to the UMBC campus network or connected to the UMBC VPN if you are using an off-campus internet connection. NOTE: Windows won't activate over the UMBC Visitor wireless connectionIf the activation fails, right-click the win_activate.bat file and select Run as administrator. If your user account doesn’t have administrative rights, you may not be able to complete the activation.

  1. Right-click the following file and select "Save link as..." to download it: win_activate.zip 
  2. Right-click on the file you downloaded (win_activate.zip) and select "Extract All" to unzip it. Once unzipped, open the folder that was created and then double-click on win_activate.bat to initiate the activation process.
    1. A command prompt window will appear running commands. After a few seconds you will be prompted with the following message. Click "OK" to allow the activation process to continue.

    2. After a few more seconds the following message should appear indicating Windows has been successfully activated. Click "OK" to complete the activation procedure.
