Make sure IMAP is enabled in your UMBC Gmail account. How do I enable IMAP for Gmail? If you have not changed your password since migrating to Gmail, you will need to change your password in myUMBC .

From a desktop or laptop computer, sign up for UMBC Gmail. New accounts are created starting Fall 2010 semester are already in the UMBC Gmail environment
Log in to UMBC Gmail at http://gmail.umbc.edu
In the top right corner of the screen, select Settings by clicking the gear icon
Select the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
Next to IMAP Access, select Enable IMAP, then click Save Changes
Log out of UMBC Gmail, then exit your browser
On the iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad tap Settings
Tap Accounts & Passwords
Tap Add Account…
Tap Google.
Enter your UMBC email address in the email field and tap Sign In to be taken to the myUMBC Log In screenclick Next to select what other UMBC Gmail attributes to download and save to your device. For example, your Contacts, your Calendar info, etc..
Enter your username and password in the myUMBC Log In screen and select Log In
You will be prompted with a message stating that iOS would like access to your Google Account. Select Accept
Your account should now be configured.
