Availability of VHS Players in Instructional Spaces

  1. To request the use of a VCR/VHS player for an instructional space please complete the AV Services Request Form http://doit.umbc.edu/request-av-services/  Be sure to indicate the date, time, and location for the delivery.
  2. VCR/VHS players will be available for use in instructional spaces until 06/01/2017.

Availability of VHS Players in the AOK Library

The AOK Library currently has VHS players available for use in the Library. These players will remain accessible after 06/01/2017.

  1.  Screening Room (Room 258):  The screening room is equipped with a VHS player and has seating for 30.  To reserve the screening room call Library Media at 410-455-2332 or email medialib@lists.umbc.edu.  For more information about the screening room please visit: http://aok.lib.umbc.edu/media/
  2. Viewing Stations: The Library has several individual viewing stations equipped with VHS players.  These are available on the second floor near Library Media.

The AOK Library is working to update the VHS collection.  Materials needed for teaching that are not available in updated formats will remain available in our VHS collection.

  1. Tape age, excessive use, and improper storage may contribute to failed playback. Symptoms include: dropouts, improper tracking, muddled audio, loss of color and detail, and physical damage.
  2. Use of damaged tapes can damage the mechanisms of a VHS player, which in turn can damage subsequent tapes.
