Scanning Instructions

The library currently has 2 4 free, self-service scanners in the Reference Departmentnear the Print & Copy center on the first floor of the Library. Please sign up at the Reference Desk before using the scanners.

There are also 4 free iMac scanners near the Serials desk on the second floor.

Features:

  • Scan color or black & white images in multiple formats (.jpg, .gif)
  • Scan text in rich text (.rtf) or Acrobat (.pdf) formats
  • Simple instructions available -- no experience necessary
  • Save file to diskette or CD, email it, or print it.

 

Simple Scanning: Images

  • Place the top of your picture along the top and left edges of the scanner (look for the black triangle in the corner).
  • Start ScandAll21 (double-click the icon).
  • On the top menu bar, select Scan > To File.
  • Set File Type = JFIF/JPEG.
  • Name the file (bottom box, no extension).
  • Click 'Acquire'.
  • Set Scan Type = Flat Bed
  • To crop your image, use 'Preview' to set the scan area.
  • Click 'Scan'
  • Replace with next page and click 'Scan' to save multiple pages to one file.
  • Close the TWAIN Driver (32) window.
  • Your image will be saved to the My Documents folder and can be copied to disk or to CD or attached to an email. 
    For more advanced image editing, please use Adobe Photoshop Elements.

     

    Simple Scanning: Documents

  • Set Scan Type to either Flatbed or Feeder before scaning.
  • To crop your image, use 'Preview' to set the scan area.
  • Click 'Scan'.
  • Replace with next page and click 'Scan' to save multiple pages to one file.
  • Close the TWAIN Driver (32) window.
  • Name your PDF file
  • Your file will be saved to the My Documents folder and can be copied to disk or to CD or attached to an email.
    For more advanced document editing, please use Adobe Acrobat
    • Edit documents with Adobe Acrobat
    • Edit images with Adobe Photoshop Elements (additional image editing software is available on the 2nd floor scanner stations)
    • Save file to diskette or CD, email it, or print it.
